Hi! I am Steve G., Founder, Owner, and current roaster of Boiled Owl Coffee.

It all began for me when I tasted some horrible coffee that many other seemed to be drinking with impunity. Disgusting I thought. This was in early 1992. 

Then I tried some other coffees from other roasters and found a few that I really enjoyed. Since then I have been exploring coffees from around the world and roasters from around the US. Studying and learning, which I very much still am, I gravitated towards the ones that I really liked and thought were consistently flavorful. I learned how they were roasting their beans, and where they we're getting them from. 

Initially my desire to roast coffee began in my back yard and on my front porch down here in Flossmoor, IL. I still roast from here as we await our initial store/shop. I read a few books, watched many videos of roasters, of different equipment, different beans, different methods and came to the conclusion that I could do this and I wanted to do this.

ABOUT OUR COFFEE

The "Cup Score" is a rating system created by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) to evaluate coffee quality on a scale from 0 to 100, based on factors like fragrance, aroma, flavor, aftertaste, acidity, body, and sweetness.

Coffees are categorized as follows:
Below 80: Commercial Grade
80-89: Specialty Coffee
90-94: Exceptionally Rare Specialty Coffee
95 or Higher: Premium Coffees
